Apparently, I’m Inspirational. {Very Inspiring Blog Award}

Thanks to Hey, Infinity for nominating me for the Very Inspiring Blog Award.  Look, a badge and everything!  It seems I’m keeping the blogisphere a beautiful place by taking part in this.

Very Inspirational Blog Award

It’s a very cool thing…almost chain letter like, but instead of being from the devil, the award is both positive and uplifting.  Basically, I tell you things about me, and then I nominate others for this award.  And you go visit them, because I told you to, and I’m inspirational.  These are the rules.  Because with any award, there must be rules.

So here are seven things about me:

7 Things

  1. I have an ongoing list of favorite smells.  The top five are: Coffee.  Because my dad always let me smell his coffee in the mornings when I was growing up, and now I’m obsessed with it.  The smell of the world right before it rains.  Especially when it hasn’t rained in awhile.  It’s indescribable.  Musty Basement.  Mmm.  I just inhale and inhale and inhale, as if I can save it for later, and then realize I’m hyperventilating and stop.  Laundry Vent.  Closely related to musty basement, but not as weird.  I love the smell of the wet air coming out of the laundry vent outside.  No I don’t stand right next to the vent, I just like it when I happen to be outside and smell it.  I also love the smell of clean laundry.  It’s just, so…clean.  And fresh.  And warm right out of the dryer.  Not that warm is a smell, but you know.  Cinnamon.  Cinnamon on apples and in hot apple cider, cinnamon in Indian food, cinnamon sticks, cinnamon in my coffee (a doubly good smell)…makes me so happy.  Symbolizes fall and winter and the holidays and I love it so much.
  2. I firmly believe that every single human is made to create in some form or another.  Or twenty.
  3. I love history.  My three favorite historical topics are: Russian & Eastern European History (pretty much all of Russian history as well as that pertaining to the area that is now Eastern Europe from about 1900 right through the 90’s), British History (especially early on through Henry VIII-Elizabeth I era), and the American Revolution.  I totally just let my inner dork out there.
  4. I used to play violin and trumpet in high school.  I still play drums, bass guitar, guitar, piano, and the harmonica.  Writing music is where I first began to realize I loved to write words.
  5. I didn’t start reading YA fiction until I was in my 20’s.  Where I still reside, FYI.  For a short while.
  6. I am one class away from a BA in History from the Harvard of the Midwest and have already completed my minors in Creative Writing and Anthropology.  I haven’t taken a class since 2009.
  7. I cannot for the life of me ever pick a favorite of anything.  No favorite color, tv show, book….it’s too hard.  I like all the things!!!!!!  DON’T MAKE ME CHOOSE!

I tricked you.  I actually told you like, 13 things.  Here are five awesome blogs to follow that I find inspirational in some way or another.

5 Blogs

  1. The Jiggly Bits.  There’s probably nothing I love reading online more than a good snarky blog post.  I love to laugh, and I love skepticism, as long as it is done right.  This blog makes me happy, and I’m glad I recently came across it as a Freshly Pressed feature.  She’s honest and deadpan and sarcastic and says funny things about her womanness.
  2. The Invisible Children Blog.  This is my favorite charity/human rights/moral blog/magazine/website.  I recommend it because they post a large variety of good stuff, both informational and inspirational.
  3. MyChickLitLifeDotCom.  Claire lives in London and has a porthole for a bookshelf.  She finds random chicklit and reads it.  She loves old people.  She is British.  Check her out!
  4. Readdicted Reviewers.  These two lovely ladies review YA fiction.  I love the fresh look of their site and their straightforward reviews.  Plus they share something fun to do with the books they review.  Shazam.  I love cool links.
  5. Tiffany Metzger: Designer, Illustrator, Creative Writer.  Tiffany writes about everyday, mundane life and makes it soulful and poetic.  On top of that, she shares her art as well.  I love it when writers get all menage a trois-y with other forms of art.  She is from that other Midwest, Ohio (I am from the real Midwest.  But we both have cows and corn, so it’s all the same, really).  She also loves the show Smallville, and so do I, so I know she’s pretty stellar.

Check them out and get inspired, Internet.

If you find yourself inspirational and you’re on this list, pay it forward and award your favorite inspiring bloggers.  Also you can thank me below in the comments section.  Ha.

Every time I try to spell inspirational, I have to go back and fix it.  And now it just looks weird.  So I’m done here.

Thanks again for nominating me for the Very Inspiring Blog Award, as well as all the wonderful things you said about me and my blog! (I’m feeling all warm and tingly now.)

About your seven things: I am currently spazing out now because your favorite smells are exactly like my favorite smells, even down to the musty basement. My family worries about me sometimes, because I’ll sit in the basement and just inhale, just like you said. And what makes it even more wonderful is when my mother does laundry and hangs some towels and sheets and things on the line in the basement. Then I’m getting musty basement and laundry vent all in one and it is WONDERFUL.

Now I’m feeling weird and looking around furtively to see if anyone else noticed my spaz about musty basement and laundry vent smells. *casts shifty glances side to side*

Anyway, I should probably stop commenting here and get to writing my own post about the Very Inspiring Blog Award. Thanks again!

YAY! That probably means I’m not as weird as I had previously assumed. Or you’re just as weird as I am, which is cool too.

WOO! Yay for being weird. Life’s more fun that way, I think.

Anyway, just no one has told me I couldn’t, I’m also nominating you for the Very Inspiring Blog Award, because I think your blog is just fabulous. I always look forward to reading your posts. 🙂 So yay! You have two nominations! That must mean you are doubly inspirational.

I am so excited that you like musty basements. (Hey, there’s a weird sentence…) That is one of my favorite smells, too! What this world needs is musty basement perfume.
